Course Overview

This course covered the basics of HTML and CSS by coding them manually. Throughout the course, we worked on a project that we incrementally applied our new knowledge to as we learned more about HTML and CSS. At the end of the course we were tasked with using the Word Press content management system to make this very website.

What I Learned

In this class I learned how HTML is used to create web sites. I learned the syntax, good coding style practices, how to use it to stylistically enhance pages, and how both CSS and JavaScript can be used to enhance the overall appearance and behavior.

One of the areas that I had struggled with in the beginning was with syntax. I would Leave out a tag here or there, forget to add a closing tag, or the items wouldn’t appear the way that I expected them to. Throughout the course however, I learned to make fewer mistakes by being more thorough in reviewing my code before submission and using the HTML and CSS Validator tools available.

I, being new to a Content Management System, was also able to navigate WordPress on my own and resolve issues I had encountered through trial and error as well as using the web to find help. All things considered I was able to learn my way around on my own.
